Avena Sativa which is commonly knows as oat, is a cereal grain grown for its seeds. They are eaten both by humans and livestock. This herb should not be confused with milk thistle or for that matter with any other members belonging to the thistle family. Blessed thistle is known by other names too; bitter thistle, holy thistle, spotted thistle, Carbenia benedicta , Chardon Benit, Cnici benedicti herba, cardin, St. Benedict thistle, just to name a few.
Cinnamon is a common spice that helps millions of people. This is of great assistance to type II diabetes sufferers that causes in middle-age and kills many people. Dong Quai is an herb also known as the female ginseng, native to China, in the family of Apiaceae, genus Angelica, species sinensis. This herb has traditionally been used in Chinese medicine, actually the root Radix Angelicae sinensis, with the main treatment target related to gynecological disorders. Other applications were mild anemia, high blood pressure treatments, as well as treating the effects of fatigue. This root, Chinese angelica, is one of the very few supplies of Vitamin B12 that do not come from animal sources. Fennel seed goes well with Italian sausages and curry powder mixes. Fennel has the flavor of anise, but is sweeter, aromatic and less pungent. The name is acquired from ‘marathon’, the Greek word in reference to the famous battle that was fought against the Persians in the Fennel field. Fennel seeds are added to meat loaf and meatballs as it gives authentic flavor. This Italian flavor is highly preferred. The fennel seeds are saute with onion, sausage and sliced peppers to make pasta sauce.

In the US, where maple syrup is a much loved by expensive product, fenugreek seeds are used to produce maple syrup favouring.
Fenugreek seeds are also used by lactating women to increase milk supply since they are galactagogue.
Ginger Root- Although used in cooking ginger is also used as a medicine. Medically it is a carminative, i.e. something that prevents the formation of intestinal gas, and as a stimulant, and is widely used for both colic and dyspepsia. Pregnant women are often recommended to eat ginger in the mornings in order to avoid morning sickness. It is generally safe to take although it is contraindicated in those taking Warfarin and also in those with gall stones as it can stimulate the liver’s production of bile. There is some evidence that ginger can ease arthritic pain and it is possible that it has blood thinning properties and may lower cholesterol levels

Honokiol in particular is a very potent anti-tumorigenic and neurotrophic compound, used to combat melanoma, leukemia, myeloma and sarcoma, as well as a multitude of cancers. It is also a known promoter of neurite outgrowth and has neuroprotective effects. There are no adverse effects known.
